Had a visit to newark kit car show in the zero, its first run only 24 hours after getting the number plates fron the dvla. We over heated the engine on the way up to newark and had to stop to refill the coolant and let it all cool down. The problem is that not enought air is getting to the rad to keep it cool at moterway speeds. Every time baxter went over 65 mph the engine temp went up above 116 deg c, so we had to take it easy and stick to 60 mph all the way there.

A cowl to duck air into the rad is our next job.

This is our car next to the tent in the camping ground at newark and also on the robin hood owners club stand. (we won 1st place for best attended club)

These are the mods we have done to pass SVA.

We have fitted a panel made of carbon fiber to cover the rear of the car so the tester cannot see or touch the sharp edges inside the boot.

Also we covered the exhaust with edge trim and just hope it stays on as this gets very hot.

Iggy fitted the digidash to the car and also the steering wheel, gear lever and all the trim.

Gasket also fitted the pedals as he's small and very bendy and can get into the pedal box easily.

We have had some late nights to get the car ready for its sva test.

All the wireing was done by spencer and we now have head lights, indicators,hazards etc.

I fitted the rad, rad fan and the nose cone to the car and together we fitted the bonnet with the cut-out for the exhaust.

Hi just to bring you all upto date with progress so far....

We had a rush to finish the car as the test we have to take to register the car for use on the road is changing, and we wanted to test under the ''old rules'' as this is the standard we have built the car to.

So we have fitted the rear wings to the car and also fitted the rear lamps.

The seats and seat belts were also fitted alond with the dash and all the wiring.
The front nose and front wings are also on with the front lights.

This is the bracket I made to mount the alternator onto.

The space for the alternator is very small so we used a smaller unit from a forklift truck engine and made up a bracket to fit it. We used the top bracket from the engine and it lined up with the left hand bolt hole for the camshaft cover.

The belt is 800mm long and the alternator has just enough adjustment to tension the belt tight.

We have fitted the rear panel now after Spencer and I spent 5 hours making it.
It took a very long time to get it correct, but the end result is worth it. As Iggy said to me as we were finishing another late night in the workshop '' If it worth doing its worth doing well''
Well if he had turned up in time he could have helped us!! Cheeky bear!!

After we finished the brakes we started to plumb in the fuel lines.

As you can see the pump is now in and the fuel lines are connected to it.

The tank is now bonded in and also bolted down with 2 large straps

Spencer managed to get some glue on his paws when bonding the fuel tank and the spanner stuck to him

Spencer took these pictures of Iggy and myself rebuilding the rear brakes. As you can see we fitted new wheel cylinders to the back plates and also new shoes and drums.
Iggy painted the drums blue to match the car bodywork!
It was hard work but we got it done.

At the moment we are trying to work out how to fit the radiator at the front of the engine.

We saw some fitted upright and some fitted flat under the nosecone.

Spencer thinks we should fit it flat under the nose and as he works for nasa in a top, top secret department I think I will do as he says.

Well its been quite a day today.

We have fired-up the engine in zoom zoom for the first time and put a short video on here for you all to see.

Spencer and myself are highly flammable so we had the use of a couple of monkeys for the day to help us.

As you can see in the video the big monkey was starting the car and the smaller monkey was working his mobile phone to record it.(sorry for the poor quality, and the video beening sideways but you just can't get the quality of monkey these days!!)

We had just the engine without the radiator/alternator/and all the other stuff fitted so could only run it for 25 seconds or so.

It went great and sounds like a very fast engine indeed!!!

Hi all
Spencer and myself have had a great time at a drift event in the car park at Wembley stadium.
Here you can see our tyre fitting van in the pits just outside the stadium, we were changing tyres all day for the people racing in the drift event.
Some drivers could wear out a set of rear tyres in about 10 minutes so we were very busy all day.

Spencer had a go of course and managed to finish last of all. This is him with smoke pouring off the rear tyres

Hi all

We have been very busy at work but have still managed to do a little work on the car.

It is now at the rolling chassis stage and the fuel tank is fitted.

All the wheels will have to come off again, at the front the brakes need to be fitted and the suspension setup correctly. At the rear the drive shafts need new boots and the brake back plates need cleaning and the shoes, cylinders and drums need to be fitted.

The reason the suspension has been fitted is to allow the engine/gearbox to be installed.

As soon as this is done all the other parts can be fitted around the engine bay, and the steering shaft made up.

The brake disc's are not fitted yet so the wheels

look a little close to the wing supports, but when

the disc's are in place the wheels will sit about 10 mm further away from the supports.

As you can see Spencer has finally fitted the diff into the chassis.

It only took him 2 days of lifting,pushing and pulling to get it in place.

Spencer is pointing out to me the extra strong mountings for the diff at the rear of our car.

He has spent a long time designing these mountings on the computer at nasa where he works.

They will hold the differental in place as we race around the race track at top speed.

As you can see we have now got the chassis painted in the top coat of blue.

Spencer did all the spray painting and he did a

FANTASTIC job!!!.

At the moment Spencer is having all the paint removed from his fur. He had a little accident when painting but its not much too worry about.

He has had a little bit shaved off but don't mention it to him next time you see him as he's sensitive about it!.

This is the chassis in primer, and when its dry we will spray on a top coat. (Also when we have got all the spray paint off spencers fur !!)

We have collected the new kit and it is now at home in our new garage.

The van we hired to collect it was huge. Spencer said he learnt to ride a bike in a room smaller than that.

As you can see from the pictures Spencer did the steering and I worked the gears.

It was a little hard to get used to the van as our work van is a little different, but we soon had it flying up the motorway to the Great British Sportcars factory.

We unloaded the kit with the held of our chief test pilot GRANDMA GRUMPY. As you can see from the picture. Here we are rolling the chassis into the workshop.

Sorry the pictures are a bit blurry but spencer took them and I think he had a fit of the giggles.

Hello everyone, well the deal has been done and we are expecting a new zero kit to be arriving very soon. Spencer and myself would like to thank all the people who have shown their support and sent us emails of good luck on the shoe situation. At last sense has returned and no more shoes are arriving in the near future. (we think it was the letter to the MP that did it)

Here you can see the GBS ZERO as seen at the kit car show at Donnington last month.

Spencer has put off hibernation this year to build this kit so lets hope he doesn't turn grumpy!!

Here is another new car I've been looking at.
Its a GBS zero 7 and is just like zoom zoom 2 Spencer and myself were building earlier in the year.

As I am a busy business bear I have done a full cost analyst of this project and have gone into the business implication of the purchase of this car.
We have looked at all aspects of the build and set up cost centres and management teams to fully test all probabilities. The conclusion we, as an organisation have reached is...........................

WE SHOULD BUY THIS CAR TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But I Will have to check the shoe count and see if any more are coming.

Hi all, sorry its been so long since I've posted but a lot has changed at Baxter Automobiles.

The long and short of it is, I've had to sell zoom zoom before it was completely built to help with the expansion of my empire.

So the car has gone to a new home and Spencer and myself have been busy with our new enterprise.

Well I think you can see that the end is in sight.

That is the end of fitting plates to the seat back/roll hoop.

As you can see the tank frame is also coming along very well.

Its hard to fit in there, but goes in.... just.

Spencer is measuring the panel to make sure we cut it correctly.
We used high tensile button head bolts and special glue to bolt and bond the new panel to the seat back and under the roll hoop, this will make it extra strong.
You can see the special bolts in the pictures as we are admiring our handy work!

This is the roll hoop and we are moving it out of the way.
While we are moving it I slip and the hoop falls on my paw.......OUCH

As you can see Spencer is much stronger than me and can lift it easily.

I should have worn my pawtectors to stop my paw being squashed, but its ok now as I had a nice cut of tea to make it better.

Spencer is removing the roll hoop so we can fit the extra panels that arrived today.

We are working together to unbolt the roll hoop, Spencer is turning the ratchet to undo the bolts and I'm holding the spanner on the nut.

These are the stays that bolt to the rear panel and this time I've got the ratchet and Spencer is holding the spanner.

The bolts are easy to remove and it didn't take long for the hold thing to come off.

Spencer and myself are working extra hard to day in order to make some headway on the imporvements to the chassis.
We are having problems with the weather as well and find it hard to move the car in and out of the workshop when it starts to rain so we jacked it up inside and will work on it there!

Here is Spencer using the pillar drill to drill a hole in a metal bar.

We have all the latest hi-tech tools and equipment in our workshop.

After he's done that he'll be making the fuel tank support.

It took us all day and at the end of the day Spencer and myself were KNACKERED.

Here I am fitting bolts to the upper box section as well.
To get the nuts on the inside of the box sections Spencer had a fantastic idea to use a short length of pipe , to which he attached a ring spanner. We then used blu tack to hold the nuts in the spanner and pushed it into the box section to meet up with the bolt.
I held the pipe while Spencer used the allen drive in the rachet to tighten it all up. Teamwork!!!

Here I am under the rear of the car fitting some new bolts to the box section that support the wishbone pivots.

Our first design of this car involved the using of self tapping bolts in this area, but to make this stronger I am replacing all the self tappers with high tensile (10.9) pan head bolts and nyloc nuts.

We have also used a sealing/bonding agent around the bolts and washers to help them resist corrosion.

Hi all,
Just back from a visit to the home of Great British Sports Cars in Notts to look around the factory and wish the guy's good luck in their new business.
Also managed to pick up a few bargains in the form of a new loom and some new seat harness's.

The fitting of the loom will,I hope, be next week after the mods to beef up the rear belt mounts and the roll hoop.

The car you can see me sitting on is a lightweight just like mine but in yellow.

I also bought a windscreen to stop the fly's hitting me in the face when we drive the car as its hard to get them me off as I'm dry clean only!!!

Thats me at the autojumble looking for bargains sitting on the rear of another lightweight car.

Our next job is to complete the installation of the engine and to test run it to ensure its ok.

The ignition system will have to be built . This is spencers job as he knows someone at nasa who is gonna help him. Its a megajoltlite system and needs a trigger wheel fitted to the crankshaft which i did before fitting the engine into the bay.

We hope to do this soon but need the rest of the fuel system in place and also the alternator needs to be bought.

Once this is running ok we can move onto the next stage in the build.

'' Just when you think its going well is when it all goes wrong'' said Spencer to me today when we heard the news about another car company going into admin. This is very sad but sometimes can't be helped.
Well at lease we don't have that to worry about as all is well at Baxter automobile and design.
So onto the build and Spencer is working on some new designs for the extra strengthening we are adding to the chassis to increase over all strength.

As you can see from the pics i'm using the welder to fix a few bits of metal to other bits of metal!!
Its a great tool, but one i'm not very good with so i think i'll let spencer do the rest.

This is the exhaust manifold Spencer made.

Its job is to carry away exhaust gases to the silencer, which runs down the drivers side of the car.

He made it from stainless steel so it will look good as well!!

This will help the engine to run well and produce lots of power,we are looking for around 125 bhp which should be reachable with this cam,carb,head and exhaust setup.

Here we are again and you can see me test fitting a coolant hose, This will carry coolant from the engine to the radiator where it is cooled down before it goes back into the engine via another hose.

Spencer is checking the condition of the front suspension rivets as these need to be very strong to hold the wishbones on. Don't worry all is ok.

We are test fitting the carbs now. We need to see if they will fit correctly under the bonnet .

They look like they will fit ok but its a close thing

These are twin delorto carbs,and are giving us some problems as we can't tell them apart!

Have managed to fit the clutch cable at last and also the bearing for the steering column

This is a special bearing and fits neatly to the front bulkhead.We still have to complete the pedal box but need to have the brake pipes in place to do this.

Hi,we had some trouble with the wheels to day,so you can see I'm under the rear of the car looking into it.Thats the drive shaft and rear hub and I'm tightening the bottom wishbone bolts.You can also see the rear shock absorber with the green spring.I hope to change these shockers as green is not a fast colour and my car is going to be fast!!!

Spencer told me that we have a major problem with the fuel tanks. He says that it will take all of his engineering skills to solve it. The fuel tank is at the rear of the car behind the seats. We hope to have a twin tank arrangement,with two separate tanks and two filler necks but this is the problem.Getting this set up correctly will cost a lot as the filler necks and pumps and pipes are all very expensive!! Our budget is all ready streached to the limit and close to breaking!!

Never mind I'll just have to come up with some way of getting the extra, I might have to sell Spencer on eBay!!!

The top picture shows us looking where the propshaft should fit,but some idiot got given the wrong one and it won't fit!!

I'm not very happy about this as it delays the build a little but its not the biggest problem to date so I will return the prop and have one made up specially for me.

These pictures show us fitting the engine into the car.It was very hard to fit it correctly and took us all day.

You can see in one picture that i fell into the engine bay,but dont worry i'm ok!!

Spencer has been working very hard and it was a very hot day,but he didnt take his scarf off all day!!

Spencer knows a lot about cars and told me that we have to talk to the engine if we want it to work correctly,so in one picture you can see me talking to it.I have to be honest and say that its not a great talker but we got on in the end.At one point spencer and myself sang a song to it.We sang a song by queens of the stone age called no one knows and i think it liked it.

I have now fitted the front and rear suspension and we now have a rolling chassis.One of the pictures shows the engine that i will fit to the car.
It has been completely overhauled,with new shells and rings and also a new oil pump. The cylinder head has new valves which have been rimflowed and a fast road cam.

I am also making a ignition system call a mega-jolt to replace the standard distributor so i can have a wasted spark system.

The top picture shows me and my friends pearl and portia, they are my cats but for the picture they are wearing dog suits!!

This shows the front suspension partly built up.I dont like the dampers and hope to change them soon for some high quailty items.

This shows me and my best friend spencer (he is sitting in the fruit bowl)

Spencer is helping me to build the car,and helps with lifting the heavy stuff,like spanners as he is very strong.

I also have the use of a monkey for some other jobs.

Also in this set of pics you can see the chassis almost build up.The diff is going in to the rear and then the rear body work is built around it.

This is me building zoom zoom mk1.
It took me ages to finish it but when it was done it was the fastest car on the block!!
The next car i will build is called zoom zoom mk2 and will be a little bigger and also a little faster.
i am going to build a kit car called a robin hood lightweight, it is made from aluminum panels riveted together much like in aircraft construction.
